Upon being drafted in 1972, I went ahead and enlisted for 3 years. While stationed in Nurnberg, Germany I married Margaret Parsons from NC and reenlisted planning to make the Army my career. I was medically retired in Dec 1984, after being diagnosed with a spinal cord injury and Multiple Sclerosis. Returned to college and graduated in 1989 from Methodist University (Fayetteville, NC). Went on to work as a volunteer with Disabled American Veterans for 23 years in Raleigh, NC. I was elected as DAV National Commander in 2010 for one year. Served as Chairman of the Board the following year. Margaret passed away in May 2011 from COPD. I returned to Clearwater in September 2011 and began dating Joan Loeser (CHS 70) and we married in October 2012. I still remain active assisting disabled veterans and their families. School Story

I always recall the year of the Teacher's Strike and Coach Sal Gaither taking over the Baseball Team. We didn't win them all, but we sure had a lot of fun and laughs. I also remember being in Distributive Education classes with Mrs. Ruth Pope and working at Winn-Dixie for that magical minimum wage of $1.60 per hour. Now that I think of it, that was probably higher than what I made in the Army if based upon the 24 hour/7 day a week scale!

Tom, I enjoyed 3 great birthday while I was stationed in Batesville. Joan & I hope your birthday today outdoes all 3 of mine together!!! We’re just waiting to see where Hurricane Dorian is going & the damage she leaves behind.

Joan and I did not overlook your birthday, we have been busy since I was diagnosed and have been undergoing radiation treatment for Prostate Cancer and the date just sneaked right on by us. Only 20 more treatments to go. We hope you had a great day! Take care of your health and each other.
